The Plant City Optimist Club will hold its 18th Annual Plant City Optimist Club and Plant City Recreation & Parks Department Golf Classic on Saturday, November 3 at Walden Lake Golf and Country Club. Play will take place on the premiere Lakes Course. Walden Lake is located at 2001 Clubhouse Dr. in Plant City.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a Shotgun Start at 1 p.m. The format is a four person scramble. The cost for a Basic Tournament Package, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, range balls, two beverage tickets, meal and awards, is $60.00 per person. There are a variety of sponsorships available including mulligan tickets and mulligan/raffle super tickets.
Awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be given and will include a payout. Other contests include a? putting contest which will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45, two Long Drive Holes, Two Closest to the Pin Holes and Door Prize Raffles. New this year is Hole in One Contest where the winner will receive a brand new golf cart. Other awards include a TV, gift certificates to local restaurants and more.
All proceeds from the Golf Classic benefit youth sports programs and competitions, an Oratorical Contest, a City-wide Easter Egg Hunt, Respect for Law Program, Steppin? Stone Farm and High School Graduate Scholarships.
According to Walt Arnold, member of the Plant City Optimist Club since 1975 and a past president, ?Members of the Plant City Optimist Club act as the directors of the sports leagues, officials and coaches. The funds we raise at this tournament and from the Annual Christmas Tree Lot help to fund all of our endeavors.? Arnold added, ?We give four $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from Plant City, Durant and Strawberry Crest High Schools as well as to Home School students. We also give the girls at Steppin? Stone Farm a Christmas Party each year.?
