Electronic Arts, Nintendo and Sony Electronics all appear to have pulled their support for the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), the controversial bill being considered for legislation by the US government.
Destructoid reports that the three companies no longer appear on the list of companies supporting the bill, though Sony still has a presence, with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Music Nashville still listed as supporters.
However, the three can still be considered as supporters of the bill of sorts due to their membership of the Entertainment Software Association, which remains on the list of those backing the proposed legislation.
SOPA was introduced in the US House Of Representatives last October, and seeks to expand the powers afforded law enforcement and copyright holders in a bid to clamp down on online piracy. Opponents of the bill claim it threatens free speech on the internet, could see websites shut down arbitrarily and will not even be as effective against piracy as intended.
