Nearly 90% of UK IT managers say they are unable to ensure personal devices in the workplace meet their company security standards.
Despite the benefits of BYOD schemes, 67% of UK businesses were concerned that personal mobile devices pose a security threat to their business.
The study by Equanet revealed, however that for most UK businesses security checks have not been made mandatory and 92% of IT managers do not require employees to regularly change passwords on their devices used for work.
IT experts are encouraging businesses to implement company-wide BYOD policies and procedures to minimise potential security risks.
"Confidential, work-related information increasingly passes from work computer to personal device," said Charles Barratt, new solutions development manager at Equanet. "This trend can enhance the productivity of employees but needs to be managed. As soon as a device connects to a business's system, it should be subject to the same security safeguards as company equipment. A fully integrated BYOD scheme and policy is vital."
IT experts say that the interest of BYOD schemes among employees is increasing with 20% of companies having already implemented a BYOD policy for their business. There are many different BYOD options a company can introduce to their employees.
"A fully realised BYOD policy is beneficial for IT budgets, productivity and employee morale, however clear policies and strategies need to be in place to overcome any possible security issues," said Barratt.
